Let’s be honest. Somewhere between the cookouts, vacation Bible school, family reunions, and grandbabies running around— we forget about us.
We make lemonade, pass out popsicles, and keep things rolling while the summer sun and summer temperatures keeps rising — but when’s the last time you checked in with yourself? Not just your to-do list, but your heart?
This summer, I’m inviting you (yes, you my Legacy Lady) to make self-care sacred. Not bubble bath cute — but a spirit-deep, body-honoring, mind-renewing kind of care. The kind that restores you enough to show up for your legacy with joy instead of just duty.
Because your peace is part of the gift you pass down.
☀️ What Is Summer Self-Care?
It’s not a trend. It’s not a treat. It’s a necessity.
Summer self-care looks like this:
Sweating in your braids, curls, locs...whatever you have, but not sweating the small stuff.
Saying “no, ma’am” , "no sir", "no way" without guilt.
Putting your name, not just everybody else's, on your list of priorities.
🌼 Five Summer Self-Care Moves That’ll Bless You (and the People You Love)
1. Hydrate & Talk to Jesus
Yes, ma’am. Drinking your water and minding your legacy. Get your tall glass of Water and your precious Word. Drink deep from both. Keep a tumbler in one hand and your Bible open in the other. Don’t underestimate the power of 10 minutes with God and a cold glass of cucumber lemon water.
Scripture sip: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” – Matthew 11:28
2. Create a “Peace Place”
Claim a corner just for you. Maybe it’s a chair on the porch (I just bought a zero gravity lounge chair to relax on the portico, porch,- whatever its called), or a cozy nook in your bedroom, or a seat under your favorite tree. Make it a sacred little sanctuary where you can breathe, pray, journal, or just stare into space (you’ve earned it).
3. Call It What It Is: Rest is Not Laziness
Listen — your body deserves rest, your mind deserves stillness, and your spirit deserves time to recalibrate. I was raised in a home where you always had to be busy -productive - or you were "being lazy". Don't let me get started. But God Himself rested. Why are we still fighting the nap?
Try this: Put your phone down for 2 hours. Let the world spin without your supervision. Without there being a need to make sure everything is ok. Trust me. Most of the time it will be alright.
4. Pour Into Others From the Overflow
You were never meant to run on empty. When you fill up first, you can give with grace, not grumbling. You can share a word of encouragement. Send a personalized “I see you” gift. (I just received one and it blessed my whole week.) Text a prayer. Little seeds bloom into great legacy.

5. End the Day in Gratitude
Even if everything didn’t get done, you did enough. Thank God for that. Sit in the cool of the evening, journal one thing that made you smile, and release the rest into God’s hands.

Sis, you are not just surviving another hot, restless summer. You are shaping a legacy. One small moment of care, one quiet choice to say “I matter,” one decision to rest instead of rush — these are the things that create a life well-lived.
So take care of the body God gave you. Protect the mind He’s renewing. Guard the joy He died to give you.
And let the sunshine hit your face while you do it.
